Presumably MiKTeX does not setup this special folder and thus the user will have to manually reconfigure the editor/system to suit where MikTeX placed the binaries. MikTeX can be installed on Windows, Mac and Linux machines. Using TeXMaker as the LaTeX editor I have been working with the MikTeX distribution for a number of years, successfully. To work with LaTeX on your local computer, you can download and install an open source program called MikTeX.
